Funding our projects
In 2005/2006, the Junior League of Corpus Christi, Inc. will have five fundraisers: Bayfest, Cookbook, Fairytale Fantasy Luncheon/ Ball, Holiday Forest of Lights, and Wild Wild West. In addition to the money we raise ourselves, we also receive funds from grants and various Project Partners, who help to sponsor particular projects. Funds raised by The Junior League of Corpus Christi, Inc. are returned to the community through projects and services that meet specific needs. The Junior League of Corpus Christi, Inc. also has an Endowment Fund, which helps to insure our future service to our community. By far, the largest proportion of our funding in any given year comes from Bayfest. Bayfest is a large festival that was created in 1976 by The Junior League of Corpus Christi, Inc. as a way for non-profit organizations to celebrate and raise money for their activities. Over the years, Bayfest has grown to be the largest non-profit festival of its kind in South Texas. It is unique in that, unlike other large festivals, it is run primarily by volunteers. Today, Bayfest brings in hundreds of thousands of dollars that benefit various non-profit groups around Corpus Christi. The Junior League of Corpus Christi, Inc. raises money by providing beverages to the thousands of people attending. Bayfest 2006 will be held on the weekend of September 29, 30, and October 1, 2006.
Our League's current cookbook, ¡VIVA! Tradiciones, reveals the riches of our varied ethnic heritage, the bounty of the gulf waters, and the treasures of our farms and ranches. It makes a wonderful gift for the bride-to-be or for the newcomer to our area. You will love it as a regional resource in your own kitchen. The Fairytale Fantasy Luncheon/Ball will be Saturday, January 21st, 2006 at the Solomon Ortiz Center. This magnificent event will include a daytime component catering to the children of Corpus Christi, the Festival of Fairy Tales, and for all of the enchanted women and men there will be an evening affair, a Fairy Tale Ball. The Holiday Forest of Lights will be held in December at the Arts Center. Wild Wild West will be held in April 2006 with a BBQ, skeet shoot, dancing, and lots of fun!
