 ¡PIÑATAS!
Beautiful piñatas can be found at many South Texas birthday parties and celebrations. They are filled with candy and hung from a tree or post. Each guest is blindfolded, handed large sticks or bats, and given a turn to try and break them open.

2 cups flour
newspaper
1 large balloon
colored tissue paper, cut in strips
cooking spray
string


In a plastic bowl, mix flour with water until it is the consistency of pancake batter. Blow up balloon and tie a string around end. Tie balloon securely to a heavy object or back of chair. Spray balloon with cooking spray. Dip newspaper strips in flour paste and place them over balloon, cover it completely. Place 3 pieces of string near the base of the balloon, with the edges hanging down. Apply 2 more layers of newspaper, anchoring string to piñata. Allow to dry overnight. Pop balloon and remove it from piñata. Cut edges of tissue paper to ruffle edges. glue strips of colored tissue paper over piñata or paint with acrylic paint. Be sure to leave hole in base open and string free. Decorate piñata as your favorite animal. Create ears and hair out of colored paper. When glue is dry, fill with candy and cover opening securely with tape. Tie string together and use to hang piñata
